How To Make A Successful Blog For Beginners

You're looking for the secret sauce on how to make a successful blog so I'll keep it short and sweet - my Christmas gift to you :)

1. Identify your market

The most critical element of how to make a successful blog is to work out who your audience is. Do your market research. What do you have to offer and who are you offering it to? Get this right and you're 90% of the way there.

2. First impressions count - you might only get one shot

how to make a successful blogThere are two schools of thought on this one. One school says don't wait for it to be perfect, just get your site up and running. The other school says, make it pretty.

I'm kind of in the middle. My advice to newbies would be to get at least ten good posts written, then launch. You want to make a good first impression. You can tweak your site as you progress but have some content to deliver when visitors land.

3. Give Value

The greatest tip on how to make a successful blog is to give value. If you don't, one of two things will happen. Your visitor won't stay, or your visitor will never come back. If you've done all the hard work getting traffic to your site, put effort into your content.

People are looking for answers, solutions, remedies. They have needs they want fulfilled. Don't disappoint with crappy content. If you pile on the sauce, they'll always come back for more.

4. Post Daily

how to make a successful blog 1Sounds like a chore? Then you need to identify the purpose of your blog. If it's just for fun that's fine. But if one day you want to monetize your blog then you need to blog daily.

Here's why. If you blog daily with high quality content, at the end of a year you have 365 posts. If you've done your homework and have been hitting laser targeted key words all of this time, you have built yourself an 'authority site' with loyal laser targeted fans who will keep coming back for more because they trust you, and will be spreading the word about you. That's how you build traffic and create momentum.

Now if the idea of blogging daily is too much, then at least blog six times per week. It should take you no longer than 2-3 hours to pump out high quality, valuable content. And at the end of a year you've got 312 blog posts.

Not too shabby :  )

5. Marketing

6. Study

how to make a successful blog 2If you really want to know how to make a successful blog then you have to commit yourself to learning every day. You'll never be great at something straight off the bat. And if you are, how extraordinary will you be if you commit to excelling?

Here's another gift to you. To learn how to make a successful blog check out Problogger.net and Copyblogger.com. 7. Be Patient

I've said this in previous posts, Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will your blog. It takes time and that's OK. The first couple of months will be the hardest as you find your feet on new ground. But slowly you'll get a firmer footing and you'll be one of those cool coffee shop bloggers that you always see in Starbucks. They don't look like they have a penny to their name and then you see them taking off in a Lamborghini. Nice. They know how to make a successful blog!

8. Set Goals

Where do you want to be in a year's time? What are your goals? Work out what they are and then decide on a realistic plan to get there.

For example: "I want to make 6 figures by the end of 2012 by blogging." (Truly - I really do and I will).
How am I going to accomplish that? Do you know how to eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

To make 6 figures by the end of 2012 I need to be pulling in around $3,000/day. That means I need 6 savvy people, just like me who want to make the same money I do. By the law of averages 3 people out of every 100 I engage with should think like I do ie. they want to make money. So I need to engage 200 new people a day to make $3,000/day.

That means I need to get my blog out to 73,000 people/year. Do I have a plan? You bet I do.
